Hiking and Trekking without limits

Feeling of freedom

Experience the beauty and magic of the Greenlandic nature during day hikes or multi-day treks with overnight stays in a tent. East Greenland mountains, fjords and glaciers invite you to embark on trekking tours of various lengths (one, two, or three weeks).

You may stay at the Basecamp of Tasiilaq or move from spot to spot, camping whereever you like. We’re pleased to support you with route planning and rental equipment when needed. The guided tours can be arranged.

Hikes

Easy hikes, even for the untrained, start right in front of the Red House. Heights of not more than 100m must be climbed to reach a stunning viewpoint over polar stream, icebergs, drift ice and rich artic flora.
Another easy but long distance hike (approximately 8 hours) leads you through an idyllic wide valley along numerous lakes to the pass where you can view the Sermilik fjord, the inland ice shield and the polar stream. In the summer the lakes invite for swimming.

Daytour to Qaqertivagajik

The day hike to the house peak of Tasiilaq is an easy climb and the peak can be reached in approximately 5 hours. The steep and rocky ascent is typical of arctic mountain terrain. There is no path: surefootedness and a lack of vertigo are required. From the top you can enjoy the magnificent view over the south coast of the Ammassalik district, the polar stream and the inland ice sheet.

Challenging tours

Challenging and longer tours (8 to 10 hours) starting in Tasiilaq and partly in glaciated terrain, which require the requisite equipment, reward you with views of the Sermilik fjord, the inland ice sheet and the Switzer Land mountains.

These tours are just a few examples of the numerous and equally worthwhile hikes that are available. The most unusual but enticing aspect of these tours for most foreigners is this: there are no trails and no signs;everybody can find his own route without leaving a trace in the wide landscape.

Under 1.000 stars

The most intense Greenland experience is an overnight stay in a tent on a multi-day trekking tour. You can reach remote destinations far away from any human civilisation, and feel vastness of this pristine landscape. Choose your preferred spot on a bed of moss with the view of your dreams. One particularly beautiful area is along the Sermilik fjord at the Ningerte-delta. You can enjoy the view of the inland ice, the icebergs floating in the fjord and the Helheim Glacier, the most quickly moving glacier in the world.

Character of the terrain

The mostly unspoilt arctic and rocky terrain requires safe walking. You hike over granite hills, boulders and slopes of broken rocks. Occasionally, you must be prepared to cross glacial streams. Drinking water can be found in many places.
